Description

During the creation of this picture, I listened alot to this piece of music: [link] It's the theme for the movie 'The legend of Bagger Vance', which I haven't seen but whose music I fell in love with. So the mood of the picture was helped and partly inspired by it. And if you stare long enough, the clouds and leaves really do seem to start to move hahaha

The morning was like any other mornings in the Pridelands. A soft breeze drifted through the savannah. Clouds danced across the purple dawn sky. The day was just beginning.

The King of Pride Rock walked out of the den. He looked behind him and saw that the rest of the pride was still in slumber. All except for two. The mews and whines of two tiny cubs greeted his ear and he glanced to see two bundles of fur teetering towards him. The King chuckled and moved slowly down Pride Rock and onto the plains. All the while, the two cubs fell and tumbled after him, desperate to follow their father.

It took the King four times as long to reach the little creek he visited every morning for a refreshment of water. The two cubs mewed and toppled around the King. So great was their father. So large and strong.

A wind stirred around them. The King looked up, sensing that something was out of place. As the sun rose, the light seethed into his eyes, causing him to squint at the sky. The breeze was picking up in strength, creating a small whirlwind of leaves and dust to dance around the King and his two young sons.

But it wasn't the abnormal wind nor the leaves around him that had caught his attention. His eyes were slitted against the sun, half blinding him temporarily. Yet the shape was unmistakable. The silhouette of a huge lion. It looked like his... The King shook his head and returned his attention to the princes. Yes, it must have been the composition of the clouds. Nothing more. The two cubs laid by his feet, pawing and making noises to capture their father's attention. They were the King's heart. His future. His joy.

And in the distance, another figure watched, observing the happy scene of the family by the creek. Being one of the Enlightened Ones dwelling in the Sky of the Kings, he had foreseen the future of the Prideland King and his two sons. He knew the family was full of love, yet it would not last for one of the sons, though he did not know which, would fill his heart with darkness. Turmoil would fill these lands. One of the two would bring death to them all.

But for now, everything was peaceful. As the King by the creek looked down at his joy, the figure in the cloud did too. The three was his joy too. Mohatu's joy.

So even the great kings of the past cannot see the future?
